On February 24th, three Helping Hands club members and I went to the Korea Legacy kitchen to help them with a well-needed kitchen clean out. Due to the several back-to-back soup kitchen events hosted by Korea Legacy, there was a lot of build-up ingredient stock that unfortunately needed to be discarded. Also, we cleaned the kitchen appliances, such as the rice cooker and refrigerator.
From this experience, I realized that although the main event that many people see may be the actual soup kitchen events, there is also a lot of effort required behind the scenes to maintain such opportunities. Throwing away food waste and cleaning appliances may not have been the most exciting work, but I really enjoyed spending time to allow future soup kitchens and events for a good cause to run smoothly.
